Rick Champion for Judge

To the Citizens of Alamance County-

Welcome to the campaign headquarters for Rick Champion for District Court Judge.

I have been practicing law in North Carolina for over thirty-five years. I am currently an Assistant District Attorney in Alamance County, returning to serve in a position I held from 1985 to 1996. In 1996, I became a partner in Hemric, Lambeth & Champion, and eventually left Champion & Giles, PA in 2019.

Career

My career has focused a trial law, having tried thousands of bench and jury trials from speeding to first degree murder. Board Certified in State Criminal Law since 2005. I was the second prosecutor to use DNA evidence in North Carolina, the first in a felony prosecution. I have also handled personal injury cases, juvenile cases, child support cases and domestic violence cases.

Family

My older children attended Western Alamance and my younger step children currently attend Williams High School. My wife, Kelley, is a teacher at Blessed Sacrament School with 23 years of tenure and was a graduate of Elon University. I have been a volunteer coach, football dad, soccer dad, baseball dad, cheer dad, dance dad and drama club parent volunteer. I also served several years on the Western Alamance Student -Aid Association as secretary. Our group helped to raise the seed money for the new student activities center and general upgrades to the football stadium.

Community

I am active in charities in Alamance County. Serving on the Boards of Rape Crisis Alliance Board, Sexual Assault Response Team, Mental Health Association, the Civitan Club and the Shrine Club. I served as Trustee for New Mission United Church of Christ, attended St. Marks Church and currently attend Blessed Sacrament Church.. I taught Sunday School and drove the Senior Citizens van at Edgewood Baptist Church in Durham, N.C. while attending law school at North Carolina Central University.

Judicial Philosophy

My family’s safety and security is my priority. That is one of the reasons I decided to accept a position to serve as an Assistant District Attorney in Sean Boone’s office in 2019. Serving as one of your District Court Judges will be an honor and privilege.

My Judicial philosophy will be to let attorneys try their cases, be cordial and professional to all the attorneys and their clients and not legislate from the bench. I will do my best to uphold the Constitutions and laws of this Country and State. I will not hesitate to protect the rights of the citizens of this great state even when to do so would not be the popular thing to do but the right thing to do.
Anyone who knows me can attest to what a hard worker I am advocating for my clients. I will bring that same work ethic to the District Court bench as your next District Court Judge.

If you want someone that will “champion” the safety and judicial system in Alamance county then vote Rick Champion for District Court Judge.
